The name invokes Dalai Lama’s Mind and Life Institute. The character of Dalai Lama’s Institute may be defined by the list of scientists cooperating with it; among them there names of such calibre as Paul Ekman, Daniel Goleman, Richard Davidson, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Matthieu Ricard, B. Allen Wallace, Sona Dimidijan, Zindel Segal, John Teasdale, to mention just a few.
D alai Lama’s Institute is a benchmark for the Mind Institute. Science and Emotions are One. to follow; consequently the guiding maxim of the Mind Institute is ‘Science and Emotions are One’, a phrase taken from a poem written by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, founder of Naropa University and the Shambala Trainings. The meaning of the quote is straightforward: science cannot be separated from life, and – what’s more – life needs science if its quality is to be improved. The two elements are complementary. In order to function properly human beings need both scientific scepticism and an open heart.
T he Mind Institute. Science and Emotions are One. has been created to achieve the following objectives: 1) to disseminate and explore the knowledge and skills of the part of Buddhism that is currently used in the Western psychology (e.g. midfulness, compassion, etc.); 2) to promote investigation into the pregnancy psychology (antenatal psychology, maternology, etc.); 3) to work out its own techniques and programmes within the above-mentioned spheres; and: 4) to assist pregnant women that have some psychological problems during their pregnancy (antenatal depression, postnatal depression, etc.); 5) to stimulate the integration of various therapeutic approaches; 6) to organise workshops and trainings; 7) to supply therapeutic services |
